The real questions donors ask, answered plainly. If yours isn't here, ask us and we'll answer it the same way.
- Is my gift tax-deductible?
- Yes. Stillby is a project of [fiscal sponsor legal name], a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so your gift is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. You'll get a receipt for your records.
- Can I change or cancel my monthly gift?
- Anytime, no questions asked. The whole point of Stillby is that we stay, but your gift is always your choice.
- Where does my money go?
- The majority of every dollar goes directly to keeping a trusted adult beside a child. We operate under a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, so every dollar is tracked, and we publish where it goes. As we serve our first families, we'll show you the proof, not just photos, but whether a child's support actually held through a move.
- Why start a new nonprofit instead of funding an existing one?
- Fair question, and the most important one. The honest answer is structural. The organizations that already serve these kids are tied to a place or a program, by design. A trusted adult who follows the child across those lines is the one thing none of them can add without becoming a different organization. We partner with them. We don't duplicate them.
- Do you fix housing?
- No, and we don't pretend to. We make sure that when a family moves, the child doesn't also lose their counselor, their school, and the people who know them. We can't stop the moves. We can stop the child from starting over every time.
- Are the stories on this site real?
- The stories shown now are clearly-labeled representative composites, with real names and details protected. They reflect what these children actually face. As families give their consent, we'll share real stories in their own words.
- How do you keep kids safe?
- Every adult who works with a child is background-checked, trained, and supervised. We work with and through families, in the open, never in secret. We strengthen families, we don't replace them.
- How can I help besides giving?
- Volunteer your time or a skill, partner with us if you're a school, church, or nonprofit, or simply tell someone about Stillby. See Get involved and Partner.
